What I want for Xmas

What I’d like to see, apart from an end to hypocrisy, hate, and halibut (Hippoglossus vulgaris), is a new command line, file manager hybrid application. Often when working on the console – as I usually do – I wish I could (easily) see the spatial layout of directories. Thus, clicking on directory would automatically cd to it.

Other neat things like automatically inserting file names onto the command line would be cool. Plus file based commands could be accessed by a right click. E.g. Select some files, right click, make exceutable, this would enter chmod u+x [files] into the console window. I guess this would be pretty simple to customise too.

Now if only I had time to implement this. It’d be damn cool, I’d be the talk of linux land.

(Just kidding about ridding the world of halibut, they’ve done no wrong)

Is that anything like Midnight Commander?

Well, its possible MC could work in the way I mention. But it seems to be more based on the directory views and being a file manager. I want to put the emphasis on the console with the tree structure purely to aid navigation and finding files.

Plus mc isn’t eye candy and I like the eye candy.
